New Rule to End Pesky Calls and SMSes for Telecom Customers
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued new rules that will come into effect from May 1, 2023, aimed at reducing the number of fake and promotional calls and SMS messages that customers receive. The new rules require telecom companies to implement an Artificial Intelligence (AI) spam filter in their calls and SMS services. The AI filter will help customers avoid unsolicited spam calls and messages.
The new rule has been welcomed by customers who have been bombarded with pesky calls and messages on a daily basis. The telecom companies, such as Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, have announced that they will soon be rolling out the AI filter service.
TRAI has been working to stop fake calls and SMS messages, which have become a significant problem for customers. Scammers often use fake calls and SMS messages to cheat innocent customers and steal their money. To prevent this, TRAI has demanded that telecom companies stop promotional calls on 10-digit mobile numbers.
Additionally, TRAI is looking into the possibility of implementing a Call ID feature that would display the photo and name of the caller on the mobile phone. However, telecom companies are hesitating to bring this technology due to privacy issues.
It should be noted that only the AI filter will be implemented from May 1 to stop pesky calls and messages from being bombarded to customers. The implementation of the Call ID feature is still under discussion and has not been confirmed. Overall, the new rule is expected to provide a significant relief to customers from unsolicited spam calls and SMS messages.
